    Historical geography, geographic study of a place or region at a specific time or period in the past, or the study of geographic change in a place or region over a period of writings of Herodotus in the 5th century bce, particularly his discussion of how the Nile River delta formed, probably provide the earliest example of what would be called historical geography today. He places and emphasis on historical geography’s research focus on the past (1). He points out the problem of interpretation and creation of facts (2), emphasizes the significance of dialogue on developing the discipline (3), emphasizes that historical geography deals with research.

    Although the majority of work in historical geography is considered human geography, the field also encompasses studies of geographic change which are not primarily anthropogenic. Historical geography is often a major component of school and university curricula in geography and social studies. Current research in historical geography is being performed by scholars in more than forty . Historical Geography is an annual journal that publishes scholarly articles, book reviews, conference reports, and commentaries in historical geography and cognate fields. The journal encourages an interdisciplinary and international dialogue among scholars, professionals, and students interested in geographic perspectives on the past.

      Medical geography, sometimes called health geography, is an area of medical research that incorporates geographic techniques into the study of health around the world and the spread of diseases. In addition, medical geography studies the impact of climate and location on an individual's health as well as the distribution of health : Amanda Briney. This first report, “Historical Geography in Japan,” has been modified for the benefit of the English-speaking readers of THE PROFESSIONAL GEOGRAPHER.
